Julio "Chocolate" Algendones is one of the essential percussionists in the great tradition of Afro-Peruvian music. He was considered the great master of the Cajon and internationally recognized. The Cajon is a musical instrument of Peruvian origin that has become popular throughout the world thanks to new flamenco, modern jazz, and Afro-Latin-Caribbean music He became known in the 1960s in the group Perú Negro. In 1984 he released Canto Eleegua, an album influenced by Santeria after a trip through Central America. Peru Negro is an Afro- Peruvian cultural association founded in 1969. It is responsible for the preservation of black culture in Peru
